Yeah....this is a known, but semi-intermittent, issue--they changed the way
the screen refresh works, and now showing the cursor takes priority over
making the screen reflect the formatting changes. It isn't exactly the
fault of Service Pack 1--many people had the problem before installing the
update, and I still don't have it after installing the update.

There is more information and a neat trick to reduce the annoyance on this
group under the thread "Macro Speeds up Mac Word 2004", in mid October, use
Google Groups to access.
