Not in 2004 yet so can't confirm it's a bug or not, though it sounds like
something that others would have noticed and complained about, if it were a
bug in all versions--but since no one else has answered, a couple
questions.....

If you switch into Print Preview and back, does it update the date fields?

Possibly the doc is corrupt. Does it fail in all documents? If it still
fails in new documents, then conceivably a template has corrupted, in which
one, perhaps test documents created a long time ago....

Do you know if it fails to update all fields, or just date fields?
