National characters don't show in docs from Windows

I often recieve Word-documents from Windows-users. National
characters such as והצי often display and print as underscore. When
I click on one of these it changes to the right shape. I find it too
tiresome to click on every such character in long documents. Can I
instruct MSWord to make this change for a whole document or can I
avoid the problem altogether?
