That's an old OS 9 spell. Its magic has faded in OS X. It is very rare
that a restart of the OS fixes anything except freeing up a bit of disk
space from swap files. You should be able to leave it running for
months.
Does this happen with every document or just the one?
If just one, then you may be able to fix it by copying everything
except the last paragraph mark and pasting it into a new document.
See if you can save that, and see if will live through an open and save
as cycle after that.
(lots of gremlins get together to party in the last paragraph mark)
