Mayo, thanks for the suggestions. No, I don't have conflict catcher so
I'm saving that possibility for last.

There is nothing in the Word folder in the Startup folder of the Office
folder.

I tried this leaving in the system fonts folder only the 14 or so fonts
that are identified in their get Info windows as coming from MacOS
9.2.1. Still didn't work.

Yes, set to 1Mb.
Sounds like it might be time to play with extensions - I can't remember
if I tried that or not.
Or should I try removing all versions of office?
Any advice on this? Thanks for your help,
