Excel keeps hanging

Hi,

I have a very new iMac with the 2.8GHz core 2 duo processor and 4GB 800MHZ DDR2 SDRAM. All updates are installed...

Excel is driving me spare as it is 'hanging' sometimes for 2 minutes - sometimes for 5 minutes, occasionally longer. It just seems as though the machine is running out of memory and taking ages to process anything.

iTunes and Entourage are the only other programs running at the same time.

I am working with a variety of text, drawings and calculations in the sheets, but the picture files are not large - less than 100kb.

Any suggestions to how I can get this machine working faster and stop the hangs? I boosted the ram especially so I wouldn't be faced with this exact problem and this is exactly what I got!
