As others have written in the forum:

Eg: tclewell (Nov 11, 2008)

"In previous versions of Excel... gridlines printed as [very fine on Laser
printers] solid lines. Now they print as [inconsistently] dotted. The result
is not as clean and precise as I'd like. I am printing in the high quality
mode and this occurs on multiple printers and on both ink-jet and laser
printers."

Let's say it looks really shoddy (as visible in print Preview: WYSIWYG of
course!)

This problem has not been resolved in any of the previous threads.

You're right - newsgroup conversation never resolves anything with regard to
the design of any software package. The best we can do here is redirect
people to the availability & appropriate use of features or offer
suggestions for working around those shortcomings, plus insights on how to
use the software to their best advantage.

Rather, they are quickly closed without further discussion.

Not true - Threads don't get closed unless there is no activity for 90 days,
they start to ramble uncontrollably off-topic, or for some other valid
reason. There is no purpose served by interminably carrying on a
conversation, especially in view of the updates to the OS & programs that
take place in the interim. No, those updates don't always address the
problem under discussion, but the circumstances change. "Me too" postings
are utterly pointless & unproductive.

Changing Print Quality or colour setting has no effect. And nope, adding
borders is NOT a solution, thank you.

That's understandable. It's unfortunate that the suggestions didn't work for
you but unfortunately there are no others to offer.

This is a serious problem for the type of documents I need to produce.

Understood, and I'm sure you aren't alone.

? Are you aware of this bug?

Yes, "we" are well aware of it, but more importantly *Microsoft* is aware of
it. As yet, however, they have not been able to correct the problem. When
the problem is resolved the fix will be included in the next available
update released.

? Are you planning to fix it?

Again, "we" don't fix anything here. This is a user-to-user support
newsgroup. Although some MS folks peek in from time to time this is not a
direct channel to anyone in that company. If you want to communicate with MS
on any issue use the Help> Send Feedback mechanism provided in the programs.

? Can someone let us know???

I don't know of any software developer that announces such information to
the general public - if for no other reason they themselves probably don't
know until the update containing the fix is ready to be posted on the
download site. But even if such announcements were to be made it wouldn't be
here in the newsgroup.

If you want the latest official information available take advantage of the
MacBU blog accessible from the Mactopia web site. Even that, however, will
not pre-disclose what will be fixed, if it will be fixed or when.

Thanks.
