Hi,

I created a new workbook, entered some data and tried to save it but
could not. I get an error message that " Microsoft Excel cannot open
or save any more documents because there is not enough available
memory or disk space"

I am able to open and save existing excel workbooks. I just can not
save a new workbook. I also can not open a second new workbook, though
I can open the first one.

According to activity monitor, I have 1.15 GB free of ram and Get Info
says I have 175 GB of free HD space.

I am running Excel 11.5.2 on OS X 10.4.11.

I just updated MS Office 2004 last night to the latest version.. I
suspect something corrupted Excel last night during or because of the
update.

Any ideas on what might be the cause or how to get past this.

Doesn't sound like update corruption to me. What does the finder say about
hard disk space? Where is the file you are trying to open? Did you repair
permissions after the update? Are there multiple user accounts on the
machine? Are you sure you have write permission on the remaining disk space?

As I indicated in the initial post, Finder says I have 175 GB of free
HD space.

This only happens with new workbooks not with existing files. So it is
not a file I am trying to open but rather one I am trying to save.
Opening an exisitng file and modifying it and saving it do not appear
to be problematic.

I have not tried repairing permissions yet.

There are two user accounts though I set up the other one for repair
purposes only. So technically, two users, functionally only one user
account is in use.

Yes I have write permission on the disk.

Just wanted to follow-up that I did repair permissions and it did not
change the problem behavior.
Does the problem happen with both user accounts?
