Thank you for replying but I'm still confused. When I open the
Hyperlink command from the Insert Menu all the menu items become
unavailable. What I'm trying to do is replace the full web address
with say one word such as the name of the web site. Keyboard shortcuts
don't help I'm afraid.

As Bob says, use the keyboard shortcuts. If you've copied the text to paste
prior to opening the Hyperlink dialog, you can use Cmd-V to paste the text
in any field.

In general, keyboard shortcuts Cmd-X, Cmd-C and Cmd-V are always available
(in any program) even though the menu equivalents are not. Example: in Open
and Save dialogs.

Thanks for your reply and I follow what you say about the short cuts.
So, I need to copy the link first, then open the Hyperlink dialogue
box, then cmd+V to paste the link in and then type a display name or
word - just not as easy as in previous Office (I'm using Office: Mac
2008).

Your last reply suggests that the solution is not 100% satisfying. I think
that part of the problem is that your questions were not 100% clear either
("you have to laboriously type in the web address", "replace the full web
address with say one word such as the name of the web site", "just not as
easy as in previous Office").

So could you explain exactly what you're trying to achieve, like copying a
complete web link (name and address) from one cell to another, or from an
outside source (a text file or web page) to a cell, or do a mass replace on
dozens of cells, or else...? A simpler method might be found after all.
