Can't tell from your post if you understand that highlight colors in XL
come from the highlight color selected in your SYSTEM preferences.
Choose the System Preferences... item from the Apple menu. In the
Appearance pane, choose one of the 8 suggested colors from the Highlight
Color dropdown (or choose Other and set your own).
Close and restart XL - that color will now be used to highlight the
active cell.
