Re: Excel is Extremely slow

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Please don't be offended, but I really *must* emphasize this - Reinstalling
Office will *not* fix anything unless you fully uninstall it first... In
fact, it can make matters worse.

The fact that the other account can run Excel with no similar problem
indicates that it isn't Excel. There must be something that is inhibiting
the user accounts.

Did you reapply the 11.3.3 update? - your last post didn't mention that. If
you *did* actually reinstall Office you will need to reapply the update as
well... You reinstalled to 11.whatever-is-on-the-install-disk :)

Try deleting the following files from one of the user accounts while no
Office apps are running (reinstalling doesn't touch them):

User|Library|Preferences|com.microsoft.Excel.plist
User|Library|Preferences|Microsoft|com.microsoft.Excel.prefs.plist

Then launch Excel again & see if there's any improvement. If not I think you
may have an OS setting incorrect for your user accounts or there could be a
directory problem. Run Disk Utility - Verify Disk or run Disk Warrior or
TechTool Pro if you have it.

I've actually tried re-applying the 10.4.8 update, then re-installing
Office and repairing permissions, still no luck.
The files are local, installing from DVD.
Excel works fine from an admin account, the problem surfaces when
setting up standard users with no admin rights.

First thought would be to run repair disk permissions if you haven't already
done that. If that has recently been done or if doing so now doesn't help:

Reapply the appropriate OS X 10.4.8 Combo Updater,
Reapply the Office 11.3.3 update,
Repair disk permissions

If still no glee, try installing Office to a new user acct & see how it runs
there. BTW - are the files stored locally or on a network?

I'm having tons of issues with the latest version of Office 2004,
since we've updated to the 11.3.3 Update, Excel has become super slow.
Entourage and Word work just fine, Excel takes forever to launch. even
after it launhes it sometimes takes up to 30 seconds to open small
documents.
We're running 10.4.8 with al of the latest Apple security Updates.
