That doesn't seem to be an option as it doesn't allow for the assignment
of shortcuts for the actual paste special options:- values, formulas,
formats, transpose etc.

Ideally I want the facility to actually do the paste special via the
keyboard, rather than just invoke the past special menu, which is what
your suggestion would do.

Apparently you didn't bother to look beyond the one specific entry in the
list of commands - Paste Values & Paste Formatting are there waiting for a
keystroke to be assigned.

Also if you follow Priyanka's suggestion, once into the Paste Special dialog
you can simply type the appropriate character to select (almost any of) the
options, then press [return]. You actually wind up with fewer keystrokes per
command than the equivalent series of strokes on the PC.

Paste Special>Formats:
Mac = Control+V
PC = Alt+E,S,V,Enter

Or, if you assign Control+P to Paste Special...

Paste Special>Formulas:
Mac = Control+V,V,[return]
PC = Alt+E,S,V,Enter

Granted most of this isn't very well documented, but just because it doesn't
jump up & bite you doesn't mean it isn't there.

Oops. Thanks for that Bob (I'll consider myself told :-)

I wasn't even aware that you could type the characters to select the
options (i.e v for values). Because the letters aren't underlined like
on the PC I thought the facility wasn't available. I suppose this
probably goes for other things too.

Glad the insights are useful to you! Sorry if I came off a little stern, but
I was just in a bit of a rush at the time.

Having worked both sides of the street for quite a few years I've come to
understand that the differences really aren't 'monumental' - it's usually
just a matter of how receptive any individual is to making the adjustment.
As mentioned though, many of the similarities just aren't well documented if
documented at all. The objective fact though is that there definitely *are*
differences but it's the user who determines whether the individual
difference is better/worse.

Actually, the underscore thing was a part of Mac OS quite some time ago but
got dropped somewhere along the line. There's still a macro floating around
out there that enables main menu access from the keyboard, but I've never
used it - I'm a dedicated mouser :)

There are also a number of 3rd party utilities that expand on keyboard
access if you're interested - you might try VersionTracker.com or some of
the other software sites for more info.

In the meantime don't hesitate to post any curiosities - I'm sure someone
will be able to offer a solution.
