I have had the same problem with Excel on a less critical application. The
only way I have found to make sure the Excel page appears the same on
Windows is to save it as a PDF file. The closest workaround that I came up
with was to switch to an OpenType font. I now use Officina Sans Std open
type font for my worksheet. The font still appears differently on the
Windows machine, but the difference is minimized. Also, when printing to a
postscript printer, the fonts usually display properly, sometimes even if
print preview on the Windows platform said that the text would not fit in a
certain cell. That said, however, I work with small point sizes and so the
difference may be less noticeable. Until I got my Mac for work, I ended up
sizing my worksheet for the Windows machine. It would then always be
viewable on my Mac, just a little smaller. I did not experiment with
graphics on my spreadsheet. If this is to be a full application you may have
to create a different version for each platform.
Helvetica is available as an open type font. I doubt this will solve the
problem, but it may be worth a try.
