Double click displays no data

When I double click any of my spreadsheets to open it, excel opens up but
displays no data. When I do a File/Open from the menu and select the
spreadsheets the file opens fine. I have performed a repair of office, and
this has not solved the problem. I can double click on word files, or
PowerPoint files and these open fine. Any ideals would be appreciated.
Office version is 2002
