Sounds like you have an add-in that's looking for the Windows registry.
Check Tools/Add-ins and remove them one at a time until you find the
culprit.
If it's not an add-in, check the
Microsoft Office X:Office:Startup:Excel
folder, or any folder you've designated as an alternate startup folder
(Preferences/General), for a file containing a macro looking for the
Windows registry.
