yesterday entourage started re-downloading all my mail again that was
stored on my email server (run by another company). I contacted them
and they said rebuild the database as it is not syncing with their
service properly.
Did that and it made a new database and archived my old one as "Old
Database1" in the Main Identity folder.
Now when I open Entourage it just crashes. No mail screen / nothing.
Just bounces and crashes.
Tried making a new user account and then copying the database - still
crashes.
Tried importing the emails into MacMail and it crashes.
This is a common problem with POP accounts when the mail server itself is reset.
POP messages are assigned a unique ID by the server, which Entourage uses to determine whether or not it has already downloaded the message. Sometimes, a reboot or a rebuild of your message store on the server will reset those unique IDs. Entourage will then download what it thinks are new messages.
Entourage did nothing wrong.
Not knowing what's happening with your new identity, I suggest you return to your old identity and continue using it. Yes, you'll have duplicates but, again, that's not Entourage causing the problem.
If possible, you might switch your account from POP to IMAP, which will sync messages rather than download/delete messages.
Hope this helps!
