There have been a few reports of scripts not showing up recently. The
solution in each case was to open them in the Finder with a double-click
- they should open up in "Script Editor" by default; then add a space to
the end of the script and delete it again. Now save the script again. It
should show up in the script menu now (but only if it is saved into the
"Entourage Script Menu Items" folder).
I just downloaded the script and had a look at it. It doesn't appear in
the menu here either (even in Entourage 2004).
I notice the script file has no file type or creator type assigned.
Typically, scripts are assigned the file type 'osas' and creator 'ToyS'.
In fact, when you save a script from Script Editor, it creates the file
with this file type and creator. I just added the file type 'osas' and
creator 'ToyS' to the file, and it now appears in the menu here.
So when Entourage scans the folder to build the script menu, it probably
ignores files that do not have file type 'osas' and creator 'ToyS'.
The question is: How did the file type and creator get removed from this
script?
I'm betting before the script was compressed into a ZIp file and
published to the web site, someone transferred the script to a computer
that was not using the HFS file system, which would effectively remove
the file type and creator attributes as well as the resource fork of the
file. If they had instead zipped the file (using Mac OS X's built-in
"Compress" menu command in the FInder) *before* copying the file, the
file type and creator would have been preserved in the ZIP archive.
So - be sure you always compress scripts *BEFORE* copying them off your
Mac onto a non-HFS file system!
