Why not try the telnet command I gave you in my other reply to connect
to the standard SMTP port 25, and post the results here??
Again, port 110 is used for POP - I haven't ever seen it used for SMTP.
There is no possible way the same host can run a POP server and a SMTP
server on the same port (110), because ports are only allowed to be
assigned to one service at a time. If your IT guy told you to set the
SMTP port to 110, I suspect he doesn't know much about the subject at
all.
