Very strange. I've never heard of this behavior. It sounds like you're experiencing some sort of delay in the move process. Try this:
Go to Tools --> Accounts... and double-click your IMAP account to edit it.
Under the Options tab is a feature to "Send commands to the server simultaneously". Enable or disable that compared to what it's set to now.
Some IMAP accounts support this feature and some don't. I use Gmail and know that it supports this being enabled. If you enable it and then begin getting errors for the account then you'll need to disable it and look for a different solution.
I am assuming that when you set up the rules under the heading POP,
IMAP these are the incomming rules? and all OUTGOING rules are set up
under the heading OUTGOING?
