The little brown letter that pops up letting me know I have new mail is
missing. I still get the little box that open upf for a few seconds telling
me that I have a new mail, but if I am away from my desk I can easily miss
that. I would like either the letter icon, or some other icon to pop up over
the top of the entourage icon to let me know there is new mail.

Can I get the letter icon back? Please help. Thank you.

Hmmm, this is the first ever for this problem.

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or
if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

You will need drag your Microsoft User Data folder to the Shared folder for
testing. In the new User, drag (it actually copies it) to the Documents
folder. Set Account under Option tab to "leave on server" for the Test.
Move your Microsoft User Data folder back to your normal documents folder
after testing. IMPORTANT By leaving your mail on server this leaves the mail
for your "original" Identity to download.

If the problem goes away, you know the problem is in your User's folder. By
using your Identity, it indicates your Identity is not at fault.

If the problem does not go away, then create a new blank Identity in the new
User and test. If the problem goes away then it's your database. You would
need to rebuild.

If the problem exists with a new blank Identity in a new User, then it's
system wide. The combo updater from Apple might fix this, but it could take
an "Archive & Install".

You might need to download the combo updater from Apple and run it again
rather than using Software Update. Doing so overwrites potentially
problem-causing files. Several users have reported this fixed some odd
problems they were having with Entourage. Combo updaters will install on the
same version as they¹re applying?no need to roll back or do a clean install.

Leopard:

Mac OS X 10.5.4 Combo Update
(For both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs )
<http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1054comboupdate.html>

Tiger:

Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC)
<http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html>

Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (Intel)

<http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411updateintel.html>

If it fails there, do an "Archive and Install" of the OS. "Archive and
Install" moves existing system files to a folder named Previous System and
then installs Mac OS X again.

Just be sure to check Preserve Users and Network Settings when you select
Archive & Install.

Let me know what you find.
