File Attachment Size Changing

Hope someone can help.

I made a Powerpoint [.pptx] which measured 9.1MB. I then compressed it to get a zip file of 8.2MB.

The file was then attached to an Entourage email for sending. I noticed that the attachment file size had increased to 11.1 MB! This size was confirmed when the email bounced back from intended recipient due to it being over 10 MB in size.

I then tried attaching the file to an Apple Mail email, and found the attachment to have 'retained' it original size and went to the intended recipient without any problems.

Any ideas why the attachment increased in size when attached to an Entourage email?

No big deal I suppose as I can just use Apple mail instead. Would just like to know what the cause is.
