Re: Account Setup Assistant, has anybody gotten it to work?

We have 350 Macs on campus and will be deploying Office 2008 this
summer on all of them. We purchased one copy for my department just to
start getting familiar with it. We are trying to configure Entourage
2008 to work with our existing Exchange 2007 server. Both products are
fully patched and up to date.

The auto-setup in Outlook on a PC works great. Launch Outlook, click
submit a few times and it discovers everything based on the persons
login. We have not been able to get the Account Setup Assistant to
work on the Mac at all. I have been trying to find resources for
troubleshooting this but they are few and far between. Has anybody
every gotten this to work or is manual account configuration the only
way to make this work?

We have a similar situation between Exchange 2007 server and Entourage 2008
clients. Auto-discover works perfectly on our Windows machines using
Outlook 2007, but we have had mixed results with auto-discover in Entourage
2008. It sometimes works, but not always. When it does work, the following
problems always occur:

- In order for the new (to Entourage) "out of office" function to work,
Entourage must connect to the front-end client access server (CAS).
Auto-discovery connects Entourage to the back-end mailbox server (MBX).
That's fine for mail, contacts and calendar, but it disables out-of-office.

- In order for public folders and free/busy info to work, Entourage has to
connect to the back-end (MBX). Auto-discovery doesn't configure that at
all, so it must be done manually in the Advanced

- Sometimes auto-discovery finds one of our three domain controllers for
LDAP services, but usually not.

Microsoft's pat response is "Your DNS is misconfigured" (it isn't) or "you
don't meet all the requirements described in the Resource Kit" (we do).

I don't really care. We are primary an (ugh!) Windows shop with relatively
few Mac users so it's easy enough to configure Entourage 2008 manually.
Still, it would be nice if auto-discover actually discovered what Entourage
needs...
