Did you specifically assign your keyboard shortcuts to Microsoft
Entourage and not to All Applications in the Keyboard & Mouse preference
pane?

I just verified that they are indeed, under Application Keyboard Shortcuts /
Microsoft Entourage
The keyboard commands will only work only with:

View --> Expand All
View --> Collapse All

You'll still need to select the appropriate newsgroup first before
invoking the commands.

I did that and put my cursor in the window of newsgroups threads.

Once they're assigned, be sure to restart Entourage.
I can verify that I did that.

If they are working correctly then you'll see the new shortcuts
appear next to the Expand All and Collapse All menu commands themselves.

They do *NOT* appear next to the commands in the pulldown menu. It seems I
am missing a vital step after typing the title and then the four shortcut
keys. In System Preferences, the Descriptions correctly appear under
Microsoft and the four-key sequences appear to the right of them in the
Shortcut column.

The missing step must be some way to communicate to Entourage by more than
description and sequence of keys in the shortcuts what process/processes
need to be launched when the the shortcut is typed while in a Newsgroup View
window of threads.

Incidentally, when I press control- option- command - c, rather than
collapsing anything, a post is opened and displays.
