Subject: Inexplicable contact replication .. over 10,000 entries of the same
contact and same email address

I use Entourage 2004, with MAC OS X 10.4.10.

Recently, I have had an experience where my address book gets filled
with literally hundreds to thousands of entries of contacts where the
name of the contact and the e-mail address of the contact is exactly
the same.

I have deleted these contacts over and over again and they keep coming
back.

I believe this renegade duplication of contacts happens when I receive
an e-mail from a specific person. That e-mail from that specific
address is when I first noticed the problem and that e-mail address is
the one with the most contact entries. Literally, this one contact
had over 10,000 entries in my address book where the e-mail address
and the name were exactly the same.

Also, buried within these duplicate contacts are the e-mail addresses
from my address book that also end up duplicating in my address book
as well.

As an example:

I might have 10,000 entries in my contacts of the following
(fictitious) contact:

Name E-mail
s...@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx s...@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

bounceba...@xxxxxxxxx
MAILER-
DAE...@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"another e-
mail address from my address book"

I suspect that one of the e-mail addresses in particular is causing
the problem.
Any ideas?

I just typed out a reply and I don't think it took the first time, so
I am going to rewrite it. I am not sure how long it takes for posts
to post to the board.

Duplicates right now are managed though highlighting them and deleting
them.

The 10,000 entry duplicate contact is the one I believe is causing the
problem. I have asked that individual to stop sending me e-mails
until I can figure out what the problem is. Since that individual
stopped e-mailing, the problem has not reoccurred. We'll see if is
just associated with this one account or not. It has only been a few
hours.

The duplicated contacts are always the same but are not linked in any
way through a common domain, common mail distribution list on my
machine, etc. etc. In fact, these people don't even know each other.

All other duplicated entries other than the 10,000 one number in the
200 range. Again, this has happened about 4 times and the duplicates
are always the same addresses.

There are also two other addresses that are suspicious to me. MAILER-
DAEMON@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and bouncebacks@xxxxxxxxxx I have not clue
one on where these addresses came from.
