I know, I know! I realize that I should be using a newer version of
Exchange, but here I sit with my Exchange 5.5 machine, a new iMac
running OS X ver 10.4.9, and Office for MAC w/Entourage 2004 ver
11.3.3 (standard edition). I was able to set up an IMAP account in
Entourage and Internet Mail Service on the mail server (for SMTP) ad I
can now send and receive messages. That alone took about 4 cases of
cheap beer. I still cannot browse the GAL but I can create user
entries that use the alias and exchange domain info to allow me to
pick a recipient from an address book. I have to manually administer
it, but it works. I can even access the public folders on the
exchange server by subscribing to the "public folders" folder and any
of the sub-folders. However, the folder types are not right. When I
try to view a calendar folder (appointments) it doesn't look like a
calendar. It looks like an inbox. Is there any way of changing the
folder type in Entourage so that it matches what the folder would look
like in, say, Outlook? Nothing but duct tape and paper clips here.
MacGyver would be proud.

According to the Working with Exchange Server document found on
Microsoft's website
<http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/3/c/a3cc1743-3d24-41fd-b6cc-5cd
5fde04e97/WorkingWithExchangeServer.pdf>, Entourage 2004 is at minimum
supported with Exchange Server 2000 sp2.

Any change in Entourage 2004's behavior when connecting to an Exchange
Server 5.5 system would most likely have to be a hack to Exchange or
Entourage. You won't find any documentation from Microsoft about doing
what you're wanting. Have some more beer!

Hope this helps! bill
