But WHERE do I find the Preferences icon? One reply said that I was
looking in the wrong place, that I should look at the top of the
screen. That's where I have been looking, and it has the little blue
apple, then Entourage, File, Edit,View, Message, Format, Tools,
Window, Help, and a scroll-like symbol. I really want to have the e-
mail messages I send in HTML by default, yet apparently I can't do
that without finding Preferences!

Under Entourage in the menu bar select Preferences --> Compose. There are
pop-ups to select Mail Format and News Format. Select HTML.

I highly suggest you set to plain text in the popup for mail. Most lists and
most people do not like HTML mail. Save that for your friends that do. You
can easily change a plain text message to HTML in the menu
bar...Format->HTML. But, to make that easier, check "Show HTML formatting
tool bar in message composition window."

Fonts can be set for plain text and HTML. The settings for plain text only
affect what YOU see and not what the sender receives. The receiver will see
the messages with THEIR preferences. When setting plain text, choose what
you like. This is a great feature, especially if you like larger fonts for
easy viewing. However, the font and size you choose for "HTML messages
(proportional)" do reflect the default font for outgoing HTML mail and is
what the recipient will see.

HTML font size can sometimes be misinterpreted when sent from a Mac to PC.
This has been improved with the latest updates to Office X and 2004, but can
still cause problems. This is why plain text is preferred.

Maybe I'm crazy, but this helps me not at all because I CAN'T FIND
Preferences, so I can't do what you are telling me to do. I've had
another person look at it, and they don't see a Preferences icon
either. Could it be hidden?

I'm also surprised about what you are telling me about plain text,
because all of my friends & many acquaintances send e-mails with
pretty fonts and colors, and I'm just trying to do what they have --
and I'm sure they are not doing it just for me, because I get their e-
mails that have been sent to different groups of people. Their e-
mails look much better than mine.
