Seems every 6 months or so my Entourage db gets corrupted. I try to
export all items, and get a message saying that one of my email
messages is corrupt. When I use the Database Utility to rebuild and
verify, everything is fine, but then an export all produces the same
trouble. The only solution is to create a new identity, and then take
6-8 hours using AppleScripts to move everything over.

What version of Entourage are you using? The Entourage 2004 database is more
robust than Entourage X. Hopefully, we'll see even more improvements in
Entourage 2008.

Do you keep a lot of attachments in Entourage? If you do, then you might
consider using a script to remove attachments from incoming messages and a
rule to remove outgoing attachments.

See these scripts:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/script/fav_scripts.html#favscript17>

<http://scriptbuilders.net/files/saveattachments20041.0.0.html>

They will save, remove and link the saved files in the message.

Anyone know what's going on? Are there better solutions?

I know there's been lots of back-and-forth about the monumental
database used in Entourage. I don't have problems with that, but I do
with there were robust recovery and repair tools available. Gmail is
appearing more and more attractive.

There are other things that can cause the warning.

The "Verify database" has been known to give false reports. One option that
can cause these false reports is a corrupted preference. Try deleting this
preference file in your User's --> Library Preferences:

com.microsoft.OfficeNotifications.plist

To see if the background verify option is giving a false report, try running
the Database Utility and having it do a verify operation. If it gives you a
clean bill of health, you know you are safe.

Some users have had to uncheck this preference to stop the constant
warnings. If you are not experiencing any problems turn off the "Verify
database". I do recommend that you run regular backups of your database. Use
Tasks to set up a reminder.

Other options to check:

Bad RAM.
Being low on disk space. To check your disk space, use the Activity Monitor.
Click on Disk Usage in the bottom menu bar and select the volume where you
have Office installed. You can also use Disk Utility to see detailed
information about a disk or volume. To learn more, open Disk Utility in the
/Applications/Utilities folder and refer to Disk Utility Help.

Tip: run the script Export Folders. It will fail on a folder with
corruption. This might allow you to find the messages(s) and manually remove
them.

<http://scriptbuilders.net/files/exportfolders1.1.html>

The script will fail on a folder with corruption.
