Well, just went on and sorted it out myself.

Was the Junk Mail module of E2004. Turned it off, went to SpamSieve,
and no more crashes.

The only way to get E2004 to launch is to restart the MacBook. A
log-out won't fix it.

Have tried trashing ~/Library/Caches/.com.microsoft.browserfont.cache
and ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office Font Cache as per
suggestions at MacFixit, but no success.

This is a royal pain and I'm just on the edge of leaving Entourage to
go back to the mish-mash of iApps.

Any thoughts folks.
