Entourage freezes

Entourage frequently freezes. It seems to happen after I download all email
messages. I cannot do anything for an extended time.

In the Activity Monitor the Database Daemon is red and not responsive. It
takes up all available CPU resources 70% to 90%.

I have turned off syncing, made my external hard disk private from
spotlight.

I have looked for a clue about what is going on but do not see this
particular problem in my searches.

I am using 2004 version 11.2.3 on a 12" Powerbook with OSX 10.4.5, 867 MHz,
and 640 MB ram.

Any suggestions?
