Wow! you are the first person I've ever heard of that uses Entourage
exactly like me. Cool! Most people when they hear your description go into
this long diatribe why I should be using separate OSX user accounts, blah,
blah, blah. Our method works well for our needs. Period. One user account
is what we like since we share collectively much more than we have
individually (if that makes any sense).

I now have proof that I'm NOT the only one. ;-)

Your method works perfectly for people who do not need absolute privacy and
share the same OS user. Separate OS users is what you need for sharing a
computer at a workplace where privacy is needed - surely you wouldn't want
innumerable co-workers to be able to access your private email and files?

There's one other thing though: switching identities is not so simple if you
make a lot of use of other Office apps. Any time you want to switch
identities you have to save all open documents in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
and quit them, and also dismiss all Office Reminders and quit Office
Notifications. With Fast User Switching in Tiger and Panther, you don't have
to quit anything. It's _much_ easier. In a situation like you have at home,
you wouldn't even need to require passwords for each user if you don't want
to, so user switching is one quick click and that's it. But if you and your
wife prefer to share all other files and don't want to fuss with Shared User
stuff, etc. I can see why you'd prefer to have just one OS user and use
Entourage identity switching. Most people would find it annoying having to
quit Word each time, though.
