Cannot attach Word/Xcel files in entourage!

This is such a basic problem, i can't believe i can't find out how to
solve it!

I can send attachments, one at a time, thru either word or excel, but
CANNOT attach them from within entourage...it says action cannot be
completed. error (-8058).

It is hard to imagine NO ONE else ever having this problem, but i have
found nothing about this error....I would appreciate any assist you can
provide.
