..sit indicates the file is a Stuffit Archive (much like .zip in
Windows). If you don't have Stuffit Expander on your machine, you can
download it free here:

You'll need to associate the .sit files with the correct app. With
Stuffit Expander installed, ctrl-click the file, choose Get Info from
the pop-up. In the Open With pane, choose Stuffit Expander and click
"Change All".

Perhaps neither. Office for Mac and Office for Windows have somewhat
different feature sets, with both having platform-specific features.
