Imap issues

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

My work has an imap account that for some reason I can't send mail on when
I'm out of the office and not connected to the network (this also is a
problem in mac mail). Is there any help out there like maybe I need to use
a special port that my ibook is otherwise blocking?
