SSL and NNTP

I am unable to read news from a server that uses SSL. The server
administrators have confirmed that my settings are correct. Every time I try
to download articles, I get:

Error
Could not retrieve mail from the account "BSBMKT."
Explanation
The server returned the following error
451 Unable to log user on.

The email server uses SSL and that works fine.
