preferences, but nothing seems to work. Also the shortcuts in the OE
help file don't work. I did recently defrag my hard drive, could this
the be root of the problem; have I lost a bit of the application. If I
download and re-install OE5, will I loose all my mail and settings?

I don't know what you mean by the "shortcuts in the OE help file". Are you
talking about keyboard shortcuts?

At any rate, try trashing your OE preferences (but make note of your
settings first since you'll need to redo them).

If that doesn't help, try rebuilding your database. See here:

You shouldn't have to reinstall OE but if it does prove necessary, no, you
won't lose your mail but you will lose settings. Try the above suggestions
first. If they don't work, post back here.
