text encoding files
Arghhhh!
Leave them well alone! :-)
Needed (as you found out) by various applications, crucial for the OS!
Depending on your OS;
When using MacOS 8.6 with the extension "Text Encoding Converter" 1.4.2 or
1.4.3 installed, you should update the "Text Encoding Converter" extension
to version 1.5. (along with the languages).
This will fix most of the web crashes.
You can get the "Text Encoding Converter 1.5" here:
<ftp://ftp.apple.com/developer/Development_Kits/TEC_1.5.sit.hqx>
Version 1.6 included with OS 9.2.1.
Hope you have a backup, or are able to install using TomeViewer, (so you
don't have to do a full install, just get the bits you need) have a look on
VersionTracker.com.
HTH, &B-) Ian
