One of the faults of the ILS service unfortunately -- and the reason why
Microsoft essentially abandoned it in 1999 -- the strategy has no mechanism
for authenticating logons -- everything is anonymous.
Perhaps you
know of an alternative service to Netmeeting.
Using ILS? -- no -- unless you are running a service not accessible from
the internet.
Another program like NetMeeting (that offers multiparty audio/video
conferencing and application sharing)? - none that come to mind. If Skype
offered an application sharing function it would be perfect perhaps but no
luck there.
We need an online conference
offering video support and desktop sharing for multiple attendees. Any
ideas?
To have multiparty NetMeeting video calls would require an MCU server
anyway (a totally different function from ILS server -- which is basically
an online white pages like directory).
If you just want multiparty desktop sharing you could just exchange IP
addresses and connect that way (but because most people are behind
routers/firewalls of some kind that becomes difficult as well). Some of the
sharing services (LiveMeeting, Webex, et al) may have video support (and
most do have audio conferencing support) but there is a cost for use of
those.
