Sends Data, no voice or video

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I am troubleshooting a problem using NetMeeting not passing through audio or
video. My chief concern is trying to communicate with my father, who is in
another state. We're both running Windows XP. We both have the same router
set up between ourselves and the Internet--a Linksys WRT54G. I use remote
assistance to periodically connect to his computer and make sure the
settings for his router are appropriate. We used to connect our cameras with
NetMeeting no problem when I was the only one using a router and he didn't
have a router. Things seemed to change either when his router was
introduced, or when I changed to Windows XP service pack 2.

I have tried many, if not all, of the usual suggestions Brian Sullivan
offers on this board and at his very helpful meetingbywire.com Web site. For
instance, I have used port forwarding of ports 1503 and 1720 and I have even
forwarded ports 1024-65535. I have tried putting my PC in the DMZ. I have
checked all the settings in NetMeeting per the NetMeeting 102 section of
meetingbywire.com. The best we can get is a data only NetMeeting connection.
I can see my camera using the View/My Video function, so I know my camera
works. And I can hear system sounds in my speakers. And I have tested the
microphone with the audio tuning wizard and it works.

While troubleshooting this, I decided to see if I could get a NetMeeting
call to work properly within my own home wireless network. So I connected my
laptop (using wireless) to my home network. I made sure neither my desktop
nor my laptop had their Windows firewalls turned on. Since I only have one
camera, I used that on my desktop. The result, no matter which computer
initiated the call, was a data only call. (Again, I could see video on the
desktop PC using View/My Video.) The Laptop, with no camera attached, does
not allow you to select Tools/Video to take a peek at the settings.

When I attached the camera to the laptop, again all I could do is a data
only call. I can see the camera output working fine on the laptop using the
View/My Video selection.

The only other oddity I can see is that, when there is no camera connected
to my laptop, NetMeeting greys out the Tools/Video/Send selection. But when
my desktop does not have a camera attached, I can still reach
Tools/Video/Send, perhaps because I have more video codecs on my desktop
computer such as TrackerCam Capture 4.0.

Sorry for the long post, but I thought it would save everyone time if I went
through my troubleshooting process so far.
If you have some suggestions, might as well put all of them in one long
e-mail because chances are I may have already done some or all of them. I

In any event, your assistance is greatly appreciated!
Jerry
