Re: MSN Premium mail - DAV retirement

No...
Kahuna was the code name for Hotmail's first non beta release(if you recall Hotmail was in beta from the time Msft purchased it until formally released in 2007)

- first attempted to be renamed Windows Live Mail, but due to so much familiarity with the Hotmail/Msn Hotmail brand references, it was finally named Windows Live Hotmail.

Fyi...Elroy was the code name for Windows Live Mail Desktop
- The 'Desktop' was dropped during the last beta and it formerly became Windows Live Mail(the stand alone email client replacing OE and Windows Mail)

That's a lot of work on installing MSN software <g>...MSN Version 7(2001) was the last version that didn't require a subscription to install. Version 8(released in 2002) and Version 9(2004) are subscription based. The current and only available version is 9.6.

I don't and haven't ever bothered to subscribe to MSN in order to get
their specialized web browser. I consider myself lucky in not getting
suckered into MSN "premium" services. But then I haven't seen users
refer to the MSN web browser as an e-mail client, either.

In a virtual machine, I downloaded adn installed the MSN software from:

https://membercenter.msn.com/download.aspx

Their installer started but aborted with "The MSN installation service
is currently unavailable. Please try again later." Tried again and
this time it got to the login screen; however, I don't have an MSN
account so I could not proceed. I have a Hotmail account but they
wanted me to *buy* an MSN plan. Experiment over.

Is this "MSN Mail" what Microsoft was calling Kahuna before? That's an
AJAX web app so there is no e-mail client, just the web browser. It's a
server-side webmail client that happens to employ AJAX to extend
functionality. Support for Javascript and XHTML doesn't make the web
browser an e-mail client.
