RE: I can't get the pop3 connection working

Yes I am attempting to connect to a Windows Live Hotmail account using the
POP3 connection type. I have used the HTTP (DAV) method up until now and I
have also just installed and been able to use the Outlook Connector
successfully. The "similar" email account was an SSL based POP3 to a yahoo
account. My ISP is woosh.com who uses the services of quicksilver.net.nz,
though the same port for SSL POP3 (995) was used by Yahoo SSL POP3 connection
successfully. I can telnet to port 995 of the server specified
(pop3.live.com) from my PC (Windows XP SP3) and get a "null" response (it
clears the command prompt screen and leaves a cursor flashing). I have
Zonealarm free and AVG free installed. With both of these turned off, I get
the same result.

I have been very careful to check my settings. SMTP is set for "My outgoing
server (SMTP) requires authentication - Use same settings as my incoming mail
server" (SPA not in use anyway but the tick is off all the same). My POP3
"server timeout" is set to 1min and I have selected to "Leave a copy of
messages on the server" "Remove from server after 10 days."

I have set up the same POP3 setting on another, similar machine and software
setup at home with the same result.

My Outlook 2003 pop3 connection fails to get mail with error 0x8004210A "the

Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): The specified server was found, but
there was no response from the server...

Find incoming mail server (POP3): Outlook could not connect to the incoming
mail server (POP3)

I have configured the pop3 SSL 995, smtp SSL 587 with authentication etc.
The mail sending works ok via port 587. I have a similar email account
configured for another service provider and this works succesfully, so I
guess that rules out firewall and antivirus restrictions.

Can anyone advise what the issue could be?
