New user, same symptoms as described at top of thread (quoted below).
(a) is true, (b) is not true. Outlook 2007 (Microsoft Office Outlook) and
Vista.
I formerly used the Outlook Connector without incident. I noticed a few
days ago, via a pop-up notice from Windows Messenger, that I had 10-12 unread
messages in my Hotmail account at WLM but which weren't, and aren't, being
downloaded to Outlook. I then noticed for the first time that the Outlook
Connector seemingly was no longer installed on my Outlook.
I reinstalled the Outlook Connector (v. 12.0.6407.1000). Now: (1) I can
send messages from Outlook using my Hotmail address using the Outlook
Connector, (2) I cannot download pending messages from my Hotmail account at
WLM, and (3) in Outlook, when I do a Send/Receive with the Show Progress
window displayed, Outlook shows a progress bar for user@xxxxxxxxxxx as though
it's downloading mail but the messages sitting in my hotmail account at WLM
account are not in my Outlook user@xxxxxxxxxxx inbox (or anywhere else that
I can determine).
Properties for user@xxxxxxxxxxx in my Outlook mail folder view shows Type:
Folder Containing Mail and Post items. Location: Microsoft Office Outlook.
Clicking Advanced Properties brings up a Microsoft Office Outlook Connector
dialog, "Set up Outlook Connector to automatically synchronize your Web-based
accounts in Outlook," and a prompt for email address and password.
I'm stymied as to what I need to change to download my incoming messages for
the hotmail address, messages that I can see pending in my WLM inbox.

With repsect to Outlook 2003/2007(a Msft Office program):.
- WLM is not required in order to setup a Hotmail account in http format in Outlook.
- Outlook alone, like OE, is only capable of downloading Hotmail when using http if (a) and (b) are true
- If (a, b) don't apply then Outlook **requires** use of the free Outlook Connector plugin to download Hotmail
- there are two versions of the Outlook Connector(a release to the web production version and a recent beta..the latter[beta] due
to recent changes to support Windows Live Calendar integration for subscription accounts appears to be more stable on free accounts
too.)..ie.. if considering OLC, use the beta version and avoid some grief.
With respect to WLM:
- WLM is capable of send/retrieving Hotmail using the Delta Sync protocol
- WLM is capable of send/retrieving Hotmail using the WebDav protocol if (a) or (b) above apply.
Notes: the using WebDAV in WLM is not recommended(slower and more problematic)
Thus, at some future point in time to retrieve Hotmail, even if (a) and (b) are true when the Hotmail account(Live.com,
Hotmail.com, Msn.com) is setup as an http account, either Outlook 03/07 with the Outlook Connector(OLC) or WLM will be required.
The sole exception to the above for Hotmail:
- Hotmail Plus accounts($20/yr U.S.) are capable of Pop3/Smtp and can be setup in any pop3 email client that supports
pop3/stmp, port setting changes, SSL\TLS Encryption, and outgoing authentication(All the following are capable for pop3 Hotmail--
OE, Outlook, Pocket Outlook, WLM, Apple Mail, iPhone, iPod Touch, and Vista's Windows Mail. There are probably quite a few other
clients, PDA and phones that do so also, but I've not tried/validated them)
Now that we've covered what can and can't be done now and in the future......which of the above applies in your case:
- email client
- Hotmail account type (a), (b), or neither
- preference for use (http or pop3)
There are other newsgroups if you've specific questions on WLM or Hotmail

Either of the above groups have sufficient expertise to answer WLM/Hotmail questions and also use of the Outlook Connector for
Hotmail(if you are using Outlook and wish to use the OLC, then use the latest beta version)

Hey, I just downloaded the Windows live Mail because it was required in order
to have a hotmail account for Outlook. I really just want to use Outlook.
But now that I've done this I'm not receiving any emails sent to my Outlook,
but I am in Window's live. I can send mail via outlook but not receive any
in my Outlook inbox. What should I do to fix this?
