They appear in the Inbox for a subsecond and then disappear. That means
they DID get downloaded; otherwise, they would never appear, even for a
flash, in the Inbox in a local e-mail client.

You have a view that is hiding those messages.

Or the junk filter is moving them out of the Inbox and into the Junk
folder.

Or you have a rule that is moving them to a different folder or deletes
those messages (but they should then be in the Deleted Items folder).

Or you installed anti-spam software that is moving or deleting those
messages.
