What mail program are you using?
With POP3 access to Gmail, you have to go out of your way to allow Gmail
to download a message twice. By default, Gmail won't allow that.
Gmail: Using POP on multiple clients or mobile devices

If you were using IMAP access to Gmail, that's another matter.
Duplicate IMAP Messages
Turn off the option to open in the Inbox (OE) and/or the option to send
and receive at startup (Tools, Options, General).

When Mail goes out to get Gmail, it returns double email messages.
POP3
server. One account returns double, the other not. Any idea why? Fix?
