In OE got to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder and see where OE
is currently storing its data files.
Now, go to Start | Find (or Search) and look for *.dbx (with Win2K, WinXP
and Win2K3 you will have to set the search to include hidden files and
folders).
If they are found in a different place go back to OE and use
File | Import | Messages.
Select Outlook Express 5 (or 6, they are the same for this purpose).
Select the lower radio button to import from an Outlook Express store
directory and navigate to the location that OE is not using.
Also, see this article:
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/problems/bugs.htm#mailgone
I had done the .dbx search yesterday and only found the location with
the correct dbx files in it. Nothing is corrupt and everything is fine
other then the emails downloaded and then "lost". I didnt find any dbx
files in any other location on the HD. With a freeware dbx viewer I
check all the files and they have all the same mail as what is
available in OE. I read the article in the link you provided and did a
search for dbt files (thinking ha! this is what I was looking for) but
was unable to find any on the HD. I think I am going to have to resign
myself to thinking they are lost forever. I did learn one important
lesson. Leave the mail on the server for a couple day and set OE to
delete it after a couple days. In the event this ever happens again
you can go back a retrieve the mail or at least log in and view it
directly.
Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
DBXpress can find messages that have not yet been overwritten even if the drive has been formatted. Read the instructions.
