SMTP Recipients vs RFC822 To field

Hi,

I am making an smtp mail server as a college project. I am confused
aboute the semantics of SMTP 'RCPT To' and 'RFC 822' to field. What
should the delivery agent go incase both the feilds conflict.

In case i am posting in a wrong group please guide me to an appropriate
