Re: Sending email through my email account problems with AOL

Hi,

I use AOL broadband to connect to the internet. I use Mozilla
Thunderbird (a freeware version of Outlook) as my mail client to send
and recieve email.

Since when is Mozilla Thunderbird any kind of version of Outlook? While
both are email clients, Outlook is a Microsoft product, developed for
their Office suite. Thunderbird is a Mozilla product, and completely
unrelated to any Microsoft product. Mozilla Thunderbird is like Mirosoft
Outlook in the same way that a Ford Taurus is like a Toyota Camry.

I own my domain name and use this SMTP server to send email.

Which SMTP server do you use? How is it related to your domain?

Before I used AOL I was able to send email fine.

Now I use AOL, I can connect to the internet OK and recieve email
through my domain server (POP server = r153.easily.co.uk), but cannot
send email. I keep getting:

"Error 10060"

Can anyone advise?

You have not even identified which SMTP server you are trying to use.
From an AOL connection, you generally can't use any SMTP server other
than an AOL SMTP server because of the way that AOL has set up port 25
access.

If you are trying to use a non-AOL SMTP server from an AOL connection,
your best hope for success is that your SMTP service provider will
accept incoming connections on another port. RFC 2476 defines port 587
as a Message Submission port. GMail, GMX Mail, and Yahoo! Mail
(yahoo.com domain) all use port 587. Another commonly use port is the
SMTPS port 465, used with SSL.
