I wonder; maybe it can't be done. I never really thought about how mail
clients work. After some reflection, all that I can think of is that POP3,
IMAP, and HTTP all take a different approach to handling email. POP3
downloads a message from the server, deleting it as it does; unless it is
instructed to leave a message on the server. IMAP downloads the message,
leaving a copy on the server; unless it is instructed to delete a message
from the server. HTTP doesn't download the message, it just fetches an HTTP
representation of the message.
In other words, I don't think that you can do what you want with any email
client; you need a web server and a browser. Even using MSOE to access a
Hotmail account will take up space in local storage. Clients which sync to a
mail server (IMAP, or HTTPMail) will keep a local copy of a message until it
is deleted from the server. Only a browser doesn't keep a local copy; well,
sort of; the browser's cache will certainly have a copy!
