The Red X means that the image couldn't be displayed.

That could be the fault of the sender. If the sender is using Outlook Express, have them
look at:
OLEXP: Image May Not Appear in Message Sent with Outlook Express
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=171908

It could also mean that the attachment is not a valid image or an image type that your
browser can display directly.
