changing default music player in IE

I am unable to install Windows Media Player onto my system ... therefore,
when I try to play any music, I get an WMP Internal Error.

Can I set another media player as the default play within Internet Explorer,
so that this doesn't happen? There's gotta be a way to work around this
pesky problem.
Any ideas?
