Hi
Please bear with me for the long post. I have the following issue, which
started appearing out of nowhere recently.
When I launch IE, either from the quick launch or from desktop, it opens up
immidiately when i am not connected to internet.
But, when i connect to my broadband internet and then try to launch IE (or
anyother application for that matter - outlook express, for example), it
takes ages before it shows up, probably even 5 mins. After this initial delay
everything returns to normal.
I initally thought it was a virus or a spyware issue. But, my system seems
to be clear of any spywares or viruses.
I check my system every day for any spyware or virus using ad-aware, spybot,
yahoo anti-spy and microsoft anti-spy. I also run norton anti-virus 2005
everyday. All the above tools report my system is free from spyware and
virus. I also check my internet security using norton's online security
check. It reports my system is secure.
I thought perhaps yahoo and google toolbar (and desktop search) might be the
cause. So i uninstalled these. Still no joy.
My laptop has all the latest windows update. Also my virus and spyware
definitions are upto date.
I am using windows xp home with IE 6. I use norton internet security 2005
for firewall.
I have to tell that windows, norton and microsoft anti-spyware check for
updates automatically when i connect to internet. Will this be the cause?. I
also notice that there are 5 instances of svchost.exe running. is this normal?
Any help on how to solve this issue will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and Regards
Ibrahim
